Before and After
Removable Partial Dentures with Conventional Clasps
Removable Partial Dentures are used to replace missing teeth when fixed bridges and implant supported crowns are not possible. Removable partial dentures are typically supported by both the gums were teeth were lost and adjacent remaining teeth. In order for removable partial dentures to function well, it must "clip on" to remaining teeth. Usually wire metal clasps are used for this purpose as long as they do not create a cosmetic problem.
In the case above, you can see Before treatment, then after crowns and bridges are in place, then with the removable partial denture in place, and the patient's final smile.
Removable Partial Dentures with Semi-Precision Attachments
Semi-precision attachments are sometimes used to hold removable partial dentures in place while avoiding the unsightly appearance of metal clasps. The blue arrow above points to a crowned (capped) natural tooth with a semi-precision attachment that holds the removable partial denture behind it in place. A conventional wire clasp can be seen next to the yellow arrow below. The clasps on the lower teeth are hidden by the natural position of the lip, so semi-precision attachments were not needed on lower.
Removable Partial Dentures with Precision Attachments
Precision attachments are sometimes used to hold removable partial dentures in place while avoiding the unsightly appearance of metal clasps. The photos above show replacement of the patients front teeth and some back teeth using a removable partial denture with precision attachments rather than visible wire clasps.
