Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain Veneers - Porcelain Veneers are a very viable and durable restoration that works well when teeth have no need for structural repair but need improvement in their cosmetic appearance. These types of restoration require the removal of very minimal tooth structure, yet have a very vital appearance and when done correctly they last a very long time.
Please note the above reference to minimal tooth structure removal. You may see veneers being advertised a "no preparation required." When veneers are placed on teeth without removing any tooth, the final result is a tooth that may be whiter and straighter, but it will also be bulkier and over-contoured. This results in poor gum health over time and eventually a very poor cosmetic result.
Conversely, when too much tooth is removed in preparation for veneers, the veneers no longer have any enamel left to which to bond. The result is that the cement holding them fails prematurely. The veneers then begin to stain around the edges, get decayed, and many times fall off.
To do veneers well takes patience and close attention to detail on the part of the dentist.
